Africa is one of the seven continents of world. It has seen the most crises in the world due to the location and due to the other reasons. In 1950s Africa realized that it needs independence hence people started awakening for their right of independence. During next two decades it saw many changes and 31 African countries got their independence. The economic development was a trouble for this continent for long and it continued to next two decades. This continent has seen starvation, hunger and very tough life and time. Below are given more facts about Africa.

1. Connection to Asia

Africa is connected to Asia by land. The canal Suez is the meeting point of these two continents. The meeting location is 70 kilo meter long.

2. Central

Africa is the most centrally located place in the world. The equator, 0 degree latitude divided this continent exactly in two equal parts. This continent is strategically located at a position but this has not been realized yet.

3. Tropical

This continent is the most tropical of all the other six. The weather at the north side of the continent is the exactly the mirror of the south side of the equator.

4. Nearest Land Mass

The nearest land from Africa is the Europe. Europe is 9 miles across the African continent separated by the Mediterranean Sea.

5. The Position

Africa is a huge land mass, but not as huge as Asia. It takes the position of second largest continent in the world.

6. The Shape

The shape of Africa is unique and best. It is as long as it is wide. The distance from north to south is approximately 7,500 km which is exactly the same as the distance from east to west.

7. The Countries

There are total 54 countries situated in the African continent most of them have got their independence after 1950s. The total population up till 1992 statistics is 654 million.

8. The Sahara Desert

World’s largest desert is the desert of Sahara and present in Africa. It is 10.4 million square miles and the biggest dry land of the world.

9. The Human Civilization

While the first human was found in the Asia, but there are experts who say that they have found evidences that the oldest human race is found in Africa about 5 million years old in age.

10. The Decades of 50s and 60s.

The decades of19 50s and19 60s are the best for the independence of the African countries. In 1950s 31 African countries got their independence while the other 17 got their independence in 1960s.
