How is the physical fitness test scored?

The physical performance exam for basic training in the Army consists of three events and measures endurance. It is used to gauge your level of cardiorespiratory fitness as well as your physical prowess. The minimum score requirements for the PFT for basic training are different from those for the advanced individual training graduation (AIT). You must achieve 180 points or more on the end-of-cycle APFT, with at least 60 points in each event, in order to graduate from AIT. To pass the APFT and finish basic combat training, you must receive at least a 50 on each event.

What is a good fitness score?

How APFT Scoring works?

The amount of push-up and sit-up repetitions, run time, gender, and age group are taken into account when calculating a participant's score on the APFT. The scoring algorithm also has an expanded scale, which allows soldiers to do better than the required 100-point norm to score more than 100 points in an APFT event.
