Hurricanes are the nature’s one of most deadly disasters. Hurricanes are formed with low pressure in the sea and due to hot atmosphere. There are many levels of hurricanes. Coastal areas often see the hurricanes but sometimes, wind and rain cross the limit and enter into dangerous ranks. Hurricanes have destroyed the whole towns and killed thousands of people. Many people have associated supernatural and unbelievable stories with hurricanes and storms, if there is any truth associated with those stories, scientists do not know, but below are given some scientific facts about hurricanes.

1. The evil spirit

Hurricane is the word came from Tiano Native American word “Hurucane”, which means evil spirit of the wind. This name is given to it due to the disastrous nature of hurricane.

2. Flight in hurricane

It is very dangerous to face hurricane normally. The first time anyone flew into hurricane happened in 1943 in the middle of World War II.

3. Tropical storm

Not every tropical storm is classified as hurricane. It becomes hurricane only when the wind goes up to 74 miles per hour or at height higher than the normal height of wind.

4. The hurricanes

Hurricanes are the only natural disasters that have names of their own unlike other disasters whose names are associated with some event or place or man. The hurricanes are formed in the warm and moist atmosphere where the pressure of air is very low.

5. The eye wall

The eye of the hurricane is the middle of the hurricane. In the middle the weather is normal but the most violent wind and thunderstorm happen in the eye walls because the thick clouds and rain surround the eye wall.

6. Energy of the hurricane

Hurricanes are not just winds and rain. It has immense amount of energy. When a hurricane is formed, it releases amount of energy equal to 10 atom bombs, and this is not it, this amount of energy is released after every second.

7. Tornadoes

Hurricanes are not only strong winds; they produce winds as strong that they make tornadoes. Those tornadoes are not as strong as regular one, and last for few min. only.

8. Slow hurricanes

Often, it is thought that the faster the hurricane, the more damage it causes. It’s not true. The slower the hurricane the more rain falls and the more damage it causes.

9. Typhoons and cyclones

Hurricanes are not hurricanes everywhere. In Pacific Ocean, they are called typhoons and in Indian oceans, they are called cyclones.

10. Hurricane seasons

The hurricanes are formed in June to November when seas are most warm and humid.
