10 Obesity Facts

Obesity is the other name of overweight. Putting on extra weight is not simply the matter to be over looked. With obesity, other diseases also attack the person. It was once associated with rich countries only. This misconception was over ruled soon when the same problem was found out in other places, the not-so-rich countries too. Below are given some facts about obesity.

1. Abnormal fat accumulation

The overweight, if not controlled becomes obesity. BMI or body mass index measures the person’s weight. The BMI scale says that 30 and above BMI is the obesity. This is the abnormal fat accumulation in the body that leads to obesity.

2. 300 million obese people

According to WHO, there are one billion people who are overweight and 300 million people are obese. There are around 2.6 million people who die every year because of obesity.

3. Obesity results in serious health issues

The serious matter with obesity is not only restricted to extra weight only. With obesity come serious troubles. The extra fats result into heart disease and sugar.

4. Obese children

There are 42 million children around the globe who are five years or below this age and are obese. These children when grow up, have more chances to grow as fat and can even die at very early age due to cardiovascular diseases or diabetes. 

5. More deaths due to overweight than underweight

There are more deaths due to overweight than due to underweight. There are 44 percent of diabetes, 23% of ischemic heart disease and 7–41% of certain cancers which are associated with obesity and overweight.

6. Calories imbalance

The biggest reason of obesity problem is the misbalancing of the calories that are consumed and the calories that are burned. People consume too much calorie and then do not do any physical activity.

7. Healthy lifestyle

The healthy life style which was once the reason people were active is not a social norm now. Parks, communities and get together are the history now. The society should be made supportive so that people can get out of their houses.

8. Children’s dietary

The obesity and overweight in children is due to the surroundings they grow up. The food and the other things they eat are not healthy. Mostly parents neglect their kids’ diet because they complain that their kids do not eat well or on time.

9. Healthy diet

Healthy diet is the best solution to prevent obesity. By including fresh and green vegetables, white meat and sea food, in the diet along with the red meat at suitable proportions can help balancing the calorie needs of the body.

10. Physical activity

Regular physical activities are extremely necessary to keep the body healthy. This aspect has gone from our lives and it need to be restored.
