Snow Leopards Facts

Snow leopards are big cats found in mountains. They belong to felidae family and their genus is unica. The classification of snow leopard specie is subject to change and need more study. They are smaller then other big cats. Here are some facts about snow leopards.

1. Size and Shape

They have different colors on whole skin. Grey coat and white on belly. Solid black or brown spots on head. Tail is covered with heavy fur. They have 47-59 inches long body and 31-39 inches long tail. They weigh between 25-55 kg.

2. Habitat

They habitat in mountains, 3,000 to 5,500 meters above the sea level in centerl and south Asia. Approximately 3,500 to 7,700 snow leopards exist in the wild.

3. Food

Snow leopard usually prey wild sheep including blue sheep and bharal. They also prey hares, wild boar, bobak, markhor and deer.

4. Behavior

Snow leopard do not roars. They are solitary creatures. They only pairs in breeding season. They are considered as nocturnal, but they seem to be very active in morning.

5. Survival threats

Snow leopards are very rare in world. They should be protected in habitat, breeding. They are poached for illegal fur trade, which should be prohibited. They also have threats of loss of food due to change in environmental conditions.
