10 Rhode Island Facts

The New England region of U.S. is the area which contains many states on of them is “The State of Rhode Island and its Providence Plantations” which are usually known as Rhode Islands. Area wise, it is not a big state rather it is very smallest in U.S. it is surrounded by Massachusetts from north and east and Connecticut from west side. 1. Origin of Name

Firstly Rhode Island was explored by a European Florentine navigator named Giovanni da Verrazano in 1524, while he was sailing for France. He unintentionally gave the name while comparing Mediterranean Island Rhodes with the Block Island.

2.  Smallest State

Size wise Rhode Island is considered as smallest state in all over U.S. This state covers an area of 1214 square miles. From East to West it covers 37 miles and 48 mile from North to South.

3. Origin Place of Jewelry manufacturing

In U.S. Rohde Island is considered as prim area for jewelry manufacturing. Now the main reason of its fame is fine jewelry and silverware making.

4. First Discount Store

The 1st discount stores named as Ann and Hope in whole U.S. was also opened in Rhode Island.

5. Vacation Place

Rhode Island is a small State in terms of area, but it is considered as a vacation state. The reason is that it has mild summer climate and an extensive shoreline. Visitors love to see this beautiful piece of land and tourism is a key business of Rhode Island people.

The Rhode Island has some weird symbols and some of them are as like. “Red maple” and “violet” is state tree and flower respectively. “Hope” is state motto of Rhode Island.
