Nelson Mandela is one of the most famous people of the world. He was imprisoned for many years but still he held a political position. He was the winner of Nobel Prize in 1993.  Here are some interesting facts about Nelson Mandela.

  1. Original name: The original name of Nelson Mandela was Rolihlahla Mandela. He was born on 18th July, 1918. The place of his birth was “black” Transkei, Africa.
  2. First democratic president: He was the first South African president, who was elected democratically. He spent nearly 27 years in jail but he never compromised on his principles. He was offered freedom, if he leaves supporting his cause, but he refused.
  3. Education: Nelson Mandela studied law and he got degree in law from South Africa University. He struggled for the rights of black people.
  4. Personal life: His second wife divorced him in 1996. Later, he got married with the wife of Samora Machel, who was the president of Mozambic. He got married with Grace Machel in 1998.
  5. War against AIDS: He struggled for the AIDS patients and raised funds for them. He lost his only Son in 2005 and the cause of his death was AIDS. Death of his son motivated him and he struggled harder.
