Pocahontas Facts

Pocahontas is a historic character. She was a Virginia Indian, who was born in 1595. She had strong association with colonial settlement at Jamestown, Virginia. She was the daughter of the chief of tribal nations. She is known for saving the life of an Englishman, John Smith. Here we are stating some facts about Pocahontas.

1: Names

Many historians claim that Pocahontas was here real name, although we can also find “Matoaka” and “Amonute” in some books. After marriage her name was changed to Rebecca.

2: Marriage and kids

She got married with John Rolfe, in 1614. The man was a tobacco planter. After a year, she was the mother of a son, who was named as Thomas Rolfe.

3: Death

She died at the age of 22, when she was going to Virginia with her husband. Reason of her death is not known, but according to some books, she died of tuberculosis. The exact site of her grave is unknown for the world.

4: Symbol of Art

Her face is known as symbol of art and literature. She is mentioned in man historic books. Many films were made on her life story.

5: Symbol of Peace

She is considered as a symbol of peace. She avoided war between two groups just because of her intelligence.
