10 Protein Facts

Proteins are fats or molecules that exist in every living thing’s body and are necessary for the production and development of tissues and muscles. Our body still needs protein in our daily diet, though proteins are there in our body. Every part of our body needs a certain amount of protein. Even, for stretching and elasticity of skin also. Proteins are an essential part of our body because they protect us from diseases also.

1. Components of proteins

Proteins are made up of large chains of 22 types of amino acid. For perfect functioning of our body requires all of these types of amino acid.

2. Food

There are two types of protein in our food items: complete and incomplete. Some of our food items contain all essential amino acids like fish, meat, eggs and milk etc other are the items that contain protein but that is not complete i.e. they do not contain all of essential amino acids, these items are: fruits, vegetable, pulses etc.

3. Our body and role of protein

Our body requires protein for growth, development and maintenance of our cells and tissues. It is also necessary for the production and protection of antibodies that prevent us from illness and infections.

4. Sources of protein

If we just take care of our daily diet we can intake enough amount of protein that is necessary for our body. So it is worthwhile to add milk, fish, meat and eggs in our diet plan.

5. Excessive use

Excessive use of protein is bad for our body because it raises the cholesterol level and fats in our body. High level of Cholesterol and fats is harmful for heart and arteries specially.

6. Calories

Most of the proteins that we intake are converted to calories because our body cannot absorb all of the proteins so it converts rest of protein into calories.

7. Heavy intake

One must argue that the people using suggested amount of protein also get ill and catch different diseases, why is it so?? One reason could be that our body converts and major part of protein into calories and the second and most important reason can be that all of us usually use about double amount of protein that is required. And it is obvious that excessive use of it can make you ill.

8. Age

As we grow up, our need of protein declines. This is why doctors and nutritionist suggest less protient to aged people.

9. Surgery

After surgery our body requires more of protein because surgery adds stress to our body and causes heavy loss of protein.

10. Protein as enzyme

Protein is also used as enzymes in our body. Enzymes are necessary for metabolism. Proteins are also used to carry signals from one part of our body to another.
