10 Breast Cancer Facts

 One deadly type of cancer for women is breast cancer. Every year thousands of women die because of this disease. Breast cancer can be cured if identified at earlier stages, but after the cancer develops, it’s impossible to cure it. Care is the only cure that can save females from dying because of breast cancer. Below are given some facts about it.

1. Reasons

One of the reasons, the doctors say, is the late marriage i.e. before 30 years of age and having children late. Other reasons are the family history, high breast tissue density and high does chest radiation treatments.

2. BSE and clinical exam

Breast self exam BSE, is one method to check for any abnormalities. Through this way, females can check themselves if they feel any lumps etc. in case of abnormalities found, the doctor should be immediately contacted. An ob-gyn is the one who can give clinical treatment if any such problem is found.

3. Mammogram

Mammogram is the clinical method to identify the abnormalities in breast after 40 years of age. This is an x-ray of the breast which covers the area underlying the breasts also. In this way the complete check up is possible for any slightest irregularity in the tissues.

4. Survival

Today, with the cure available, 89 out of 100 females survive within five years of the diagnosis of this disease. While only 1% men are found who have this disease.

5. Inheritance

Breast cancer can be due to inheritance factor. About 5 to 10 % of the breast cancer patients get this disease due to their genetic belongings to such patients.

6. Severity

The cancer if spreads to the region only i.e. in the concerned area the survival chances of the patient are 78% but if the cancer out grows to the remote parts in the body, i.e. if it out grown from breast, then only 23 % chances are left for the patient to survive.

7. Stages

If the cancer is diagnosed in early stages, the survival duration increase beyond 10 years.  But with the increasing severity due to later stages, the females are not left with much life to live.

8. Age factor

The woman with 70 years of age is more prone to this disease then the women of 40 years of age. This risk grows 3 times for the women of 70 years of age.

9. Biopsy

More than 80% of the biopsied breast abnormalities are not cancers. Only 20% are cancers. But this does not exclude the need of regularly checking.

10. Annual check up

Every woman should not only check herself at home for this disease but annual checkup is also necessary. This can reduce the risk to zero. Also regular medical examination is helpful and better than later cures.
