Arctic Fox Facts

Arctic fox is the member of fox family, which is native to Arctic region and found in Canada, Scandinavia, Greenland and Iceland. It is also called as polar fox or white fox. It has adapted itself to live in the harsh environment of Arctic region. Here are some interesting facts about this creature.

1. Fur

Thick white fur on Arctic fox is the most attractive feature of this creature. It covers the whole body of the animal, right from head to foot. Fur covered feet helps it to walk on ice and snow.

2. Color changing fur

Fur not only protects it from snow, but it provides it shield against predators as well. Fur is white in winters, and it changes it color to brown in summers, hence making it difficult for the hunter to know the location of white fox.

3. Physical features

Arctic fox is small animal as compared to other polar animals. Its height is 10 to 12 inches and it weighs 6 to 10 pounds only.

4. Breeding

Gestation period of arctic fox is around 52 days. It gives birth to 5 to 9 kitten at a time, however more than 20 kitten are born in some cases.

5. Social life

White fox is monogamous animal. The couple takes care of off springs. Male fox stays with the family, while female separates to make another family.
