Monkeys are called the man’s relatives. They have many similarities with human race. They are the most intelligent animals in all the animal species. Monkeys are found in many places and they are well known in the world. This animal has been filmed even. Some time as a friend of humans and sometimes as a beast. Lest have some more information on monkeys.
1. They grow till they die
One interesting fact about monkeys is that they grow till they die. They never stop growing till they take the last breathes. Most monkeys do not die natural death but are killed for the medical experiments and cosmetics.
2. The plural
The English language institute protested for years to change the plural of the monkey by changing the “es” to “ies” by removing “y” as the standard plural. But guess, they have not succeeded yet.
3. Two groups
Monkeys are divided into two groups as per their presence in the world. One group is called the new world monkeys, present in America and the other group is called the old world monkeys present in Africa and Asia.
4. Species
The old world monkeys include the terrestrial specie called baboons but the new world monkeys are all belong to same species. It means that this group was grown artificially and now it has grown so large that it has made a separate group.
5. Apes
It is said that humans have evolved from apes. While the rejecters of the theory say that if humans evolved from apes, then why still so many apes. Anyway, this is another discussion but apes have the following species: bamboo, gorilla, gibbon etc.
6. Their role in evolution theory
One that is attached to monkeys only is that they are said to be the forefathers of humans. Darwin was the first person who made the theory of evolution and said that apes are our forefathers. He said that with the passage of time and changes in the atmosphere, the apes evolved as humans. Well, humans are apes are considered two different things in today’s world. And not many of humans want apes to be their ancestors so they reject this theory.
7. Snow monkeys
This specie includes monkeys that are found in the places where temperature falls up to -10 degrees. These monkeys have some part of their skin as red. With the growth in their age, these parts grow redder. Their females are three times in number than males. Females like to live in one group throughout their lives.
8. Spider monkeys
These are the new age monkeys with the amazing capability to climb the trees. Their tail can bear the whole weight of their body and they use it along with their arms and legs for climbing.
9. Owl monkey
There is a species of monkeys that resembles with owls. For this resemblance they have been given the name of owl monkeys. Well, if owls think, they can claim that even their forefathers were monkeys.
10. Monkey killing
Monkeys are killed at wide range because they are experimented and some parts of their body are used to make some medications and cosmetic items. This cruel act has been protested by many and a lot of organizations are working for this.
