Wisconsin is a north western state of United States and is the 30th state of United States. Its capital is Madison. Its largest city is Milwaukee. Most famous for its dairy products; this land is also called American Dairyland.

1. Geography

Wisconsin is surrounded by Minnesota, Iowa, Lake Michigan and Michigan and Lake Superior from all the four side. It has more than five million residents and has 72 counties.

2. Origin of the name

The name Wisconsin is derived from the name of Wisconsin River. This name was given by one of the American Indian or Native American groups who used to live there. The name to this river was first recorded by French explorers who visit there in mid 17th century.

3. History

The area of Wisconsin state has been the home for different cultures and ethnicities for more than twelve thousand years. The first people who used to live there were paleo Indians who had the profession of hunting ice age animals.

Wisconsin is famous for its lakes. It has more than 1400 lakes among which Lake Winnebago is the largest. It has more than 7000 rivers and streams.

10. Economy

The economy if Wisconsin is diversified in three major areas i.e. agriculture, industry and tourism. The southeastern belt is industrial area and due to which this state becomes the biggest manufacturing state. The southern area is good for agriculture due to nature of land and soil and the western area has thick forests and hill spots so it is good for tourism.
