10 Ohio Facts

The first person who explored Ohio was French in 1669. Then this place went under the British rule during French Indian wars. Ohio went to Americans in 1783 and the first permanent settlement was made in 1788. Despite of the fights it faced, this place is the industrial hub of US. It is the third largest manufacturer of employment of United States. 1. The First City To Use Police Cars

The first city of united state that used police cars was the city of Akron, in Ohio.

2. The Y-Bridge

Zanesville has this famous y- bridge. It is called y- Bridge because it has two stems like y. this bridge is built on the intersection of Muskingum and Licking rivers.

3. Halls Of Fame

There are two halls of fame located in Ohio State. The pro football hall of fame is located in canton and the rock and roll hall of fame is located in Cleveland.

4. Cleveland

Cleveland has not the actual spellings in it. This city was named after Moses cleave land. When cleave land gazette was published in 1832, the editor dropped the “a” so that the title could be fit in, and the spellings changed from that day.

5. The First City Of Lights

Cleveland became the first city to have electricity in 1912 and in 1914, it was the first city to had traffic lights.

6. First Fire And Ambulance Service

Cincinnati was the first city to get the fire services and the service of ambulance. Hence it became the first place in US in this regard.

7. Another Firsts

Another firsts were claimed by Ohio in 1869 and then in 1900. In 1869, the first chewing gum was made in Ohio and the first hot dog was sold in Ohio in 1900.

8. First College To Admit Women

The first ever college in United States to admit women was the Oberlin college. It was founded in 1833. Before this, there was no college for women to pursue studies.

9. Serpent Mound

The serpent mound state memorial is the famous mound on earth that has the shape of serpent. It is 411 m curvy and long near Peebels.

10. The First Professional Baseball Team

The first professional base ball team was the Cincinnati’s red stockings, in 1869.
