Hydroelectricity Facts

Hydroelectricity is a type of electricity which is generated from hydro power. To produce electricity from hydro power, gravitational force of falling water is used. It is common renewable energy. Here are some facts about hydroelectricity.

History

Hydro power has been used since 1770. The architecture hydralique was published by a French engineer Bernard forest. They described vertical and horizontal axis hydralique machines.

Small Projects

Small hydro plants of low cost can be connected to convention electrical distributions to get low cost renewable energy. These projects are very economical and have very low civil work.

Micro Hydropower

A micro hydro is a hydroelectric installation which can typically produce up to 100 KW of power. They are used for homes and isolated places.

Pico

It is a type of small hydroelectric system which is used to generate under 5 KW. They are used in remote areas where a small amount of energy is required.

Disadvantages

Hydro projects are submerging a large area due to the requirement of a reservoir, which is the main drawback of hydro energy generation stations. ThisĀ  up stream of dams damage a large biologically rich land.
