Gold is the most precious treasure of the world today. The currency takes its value from gold. And the big economies are converting their assets into gold just because nothing can match its value, it’s such high priced. Gold has been an important asset since old ages. Geologists found many ornaments made of pure gold and also many idols made of pure gold from the ruins and remains of the old nations. Gold had been under use of many powerful kings and many people tried and died in their quest of making the formula to convert any metal into gold.

1. The Name

Gold has taken its name from a proto-indo-European base, ghel or ghol. This word means, yellow, green or bright.

Gold is most valuable metal and it is believed that only 20 percent of it is discovered and its all is under circulation while the rest 80 percent is still inside earth i.e. not taken out of earth yet.

3. Pliable

Gold is the most flexible metal and this is the reason of its value. It is so pliable that it can be stretched to make a sewing thread. One ounce of gold can be stretched to 50 miles length.

Another quality of gold is that is edible and has been used in many Asian and European countries in fruits, wines and many sweet dishes. But too much of gold in edible items can bring serious harm to the heath.

Business men have invested in the gold since ages, but since 2008, this investment has broken all the records. The world gold council has reported that since 2008 the demand for gold has risen sharply.

6. Chemical Nature

Gold does not react with other metals or with any other element or material. This is the reason that I never irritates skin nor does it rusts unlike other metals. Due to these qualities, gold is most wanted.

In 1912 Olympics, all the gold medals given to the toppers were made of pure, solid gold. But now it is a standard for the gold medals to have 6 grams of gold.

In ancient times, in Egypt and Greece, gold was considered as the skin and flesh of gods especially of the Greek god Ra. Therefore, it was only available to pharaohs. Later on it went to persists and other royal family members.

The chemical name of gold is aurum and its symbol is AU. This name is taken from the Latin language which has derived from the aurora, the goddess of dawn, hence aurum means shining dawn.
