Date palm is considered to be originated in North Africa and western Asia. Now other countries of the world have started growing it. Egyptian people kept on using this fruit from very early stage; they used to make wine from date as well as ate it in fresh form. First time this was introduced to the rest of the world by Arabs.

Its tree can grow to the height of 25-30 meters. Its fruits are in form of bunches following by the green leaves. During the process of ripping the fruit their colour is yellow or red, which is changed afterwards. They are of various types; soft, semi dry and dry. Dayri and zahidi are semi dry, mediool is soft kind and thoory is dry type. Date is widely eaten fruit either as it is or in filled with walnuts, almonds, candied orange, marzipan and cream cheese etc. it is most important element of the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines.
