Rocky Mountains Facts

Rocky Mountains are present between the Canada and United States. They are nearly 14,000 feet high are a great source of attraction for the mountaineers, tourists and researchers from all over the world. National parks have been established by the Canada and US on bother sides to protect these mighty mountains.

  1. Topography: Topography of these mountains is not very high but they have many high mountains, like Mount Elbert which is 14, 433 feet high and the tallest peak in this range. Pikes Peak is another mountain, which is second most visited peak in the world.
  2. Animal life: Many animals are found in Rocky Mountains and according to an estimated there are 66 mammal species. It includes lynx, black bear, elk, marmots, sheep, lions and moose.
  3. Series of mountain range:  Instead of one mountain range, Rocky Mountains are a series of different mountain ranges, which has total length of nearly 3,000 miles. It starts from New Mexico and after passing through Utah and Colorado it ends in Alberta Canada.
  4. National parks: On Canadian side, Kootenay, Yoho and Jasper national parks are established to protect these mountains. Yellowstone national park, royal gorge park and glacier national park are located on the US side.
  5. Mineral deposits: These Mountains have a wide range of mineral resources like lead, silver, zinc, copper and gold.
