It is situated in Nepal and Tibet border but the climbers choose Nepal to climb up the mountain. 1. Age of Mt. Everest

When the earth came into being along with it many amazing mysteries took birth. Among those mysteries is the Mount Everest. It is 60 million years old now.

2. Its Names

Mount Everest has two names. In Nepal it is called Saragrmatha meaning the goddess of the sky. In Tibet it is called Chomolungma meaning mother goddess of the universe.

3. Named After

The mountain did not have this name since ages. This name was given to this peak after Sir George Everest, in 1865. Who was the surveyor in the British-India. The peak was known as peak 15.

4. Height Changes

It would be interesting to know that Mount Everest changes its height every year to few inches. After every year it grows few inches tall. The fort person to measure the height of Mt. Everest was Sir George Everest.

5. Attempts and Success Rate

A total of 4000 (or more than 4000) people attempted to climb Mt. Everest to date. From these attempts only 660 people have been succeeded. The country that faced most deaths due to the attempts of climbing the Mt. Everest is Nepal with 46 deaths.

6. Most Dangerous Area

Mount Everest is the dangerous place to go because as a person moves on, the oxygen becomes less available in air and pressure grows. Also there are certain areas that are very dangerous on Mt. Everest. Among these areas the most dangerous is khumbu ice fall. 19 people faced death there.

7. Buried On Mountain

The place does not only proved to be a death house for many people but also a burial place for some 120 people. Those people could never reach on ground since they died and got buried under snow forever.

8. Longest Stay on Top

Since it is difficult to reach at the great height of Mt. Everest at elevation of 8850 meter, people do not stay there for long, but babu chiri Sherpa stayed there for 21 hours and 30 min. means almost for a day.

9. Largest Team

Mount Everest has been climbed by many people sometimes in small groups and some times in big teams. In 1975 a team of 410 members from china tried their luck on Mt. Everest.

10. Climbed 4 Sides

Mount Everest has four sides from which people can go to any side to try their luck. Kushang Sherpa is the only person who climbed at Mt. Everest from its four sides. He is now a guide.
