Natural calamities struck earth as a natural process which started since the inception of earth. Earth faces the power of the nature sometimes as earth quacks and sometimes and storms. The most storms that happen on earth are hurricanes. Hurricanes are formed in the seas every 2 minutes. We do not feel them or see them because they are sometimes powerful enough to struck earth and sometimes they are weak. These hurricanes have huge amount of energy in them. 1. The 6th Largest Sea Storm

Hurricane Katrina is the 6th strongest hurricane that struck the earth in known history. It was the third big sea storm that destroyed USA.

2. New Orleans

New Orleans, USA had to be evacuated because this place is below the sea level, at some places it is 6 feet below the sea level. Storm Katrina was a storm of 4th category.

3. Storm Waves

When storm struck the earth in USA it was 20 feet or 6 meter high hence it destroyed those parts that were affected by it.

4. Refugees

Due to Katrina, more than 1 million refugees living along the gulf costal lines had to evacuate and they were displaced. They were already living below the poverty line conditions.

5. Death Toll

Due to storm the total deaths happened were 1836. 1577 of the total deaths were from the state of Louisiana and the remaining happened in state of Mississippi.

6. The Most Affected Area

The most affected area in USA was New Orleans. 80 percent of this place was drowned under water some where the water was as deep as 20 feet.

Hurricane Katrina was the most expensive hurricane of history of America.

The total economic loss caused by this hurricane was estimated to be 75 billion dollars. But the states of Louisiana and Mississippi faced total loss of 150 billion dollars. But these figures are not official.

Hurricane Katrina did not affect small area, since it was the 6th biggest storm so it also affected a great area. The total area damaged by the storm was 90,000 square miles.

10. Social Affects

The social damage caused by the hurricane Katrina was the unemployment. After the hurricane struck New Orleans, the most of the people among the 600,000 job-ians were left with no source of earning.
