1. Dimensions

The dimensions of Grand Canyon in terms of length, width and depth are 227 miles, 18 miles and 5,000 feet respectively. The total area of Grand Canyon is about 1,218,376 acres.

2. Altitude

With reference to Yavapai point, the altitude of Grand Canyon above sea level is 2400 feet. The average depth of Grand Canyon is almost one mile with altitude level 5400 feet from North Rim and 4500 feet from South Rim.

3. Cause of Formation

Colorado River was the reason behind formation of Grand Canyon. In fact, this river flows through Canyon in the west with an average depth of 100 feet. The width of Colorado River is about 300 feet and flows at the rate of four miles per hour.

4. Species of Animals

The numbers of animal species that are found in Grand Canyon are different with respect to their type. There are almost 25 species of reptiles, 70 species of mammals, five species of amphibians and 250 species of birds that are present in Grand Canyon.

8. No Fossil Found

There is no fossil found in whole Grand Canyon even of a reptile. However, footprints of some reptiles as well as amphibians are found in this region.
