10 Heart Facts

The most important organ of body is heart, and its importance is same for every living being because till the heart beats, we live, when it stops, we die. Heart pumps blood into the veins of body so that oxygen rich blood can be utilized by the body parts to function properly while the oxygen poor blood also reaches the heat from the body so that it could be sent to lungs for the oxygen treatment. Every breathe we take is for our blood to be oxygenated otherwise blood circulation becomes meaningless.

1. Heart Beats                            

A human heart beats 100,000 times a day and in a year, this figure reaches 35 million beats. During the average life span of a human, his heart beats up to 2.5 billion times.

2. Heart Keeps Beating

The involuntary muscles of heart keep on working and they never stop till a living being lives. Even if we sleep our heart never sleeps, it doesn’t even slow down for a second neither does it tires.

3. Blood Pumping

The main function of the heart is to pump blood in the body. The force it applies is as if you squeeze a tennis ball hard. Even when a person is at rest, heart applies force to pump blood; it is twice as much as the leg muscles of a person sprinting.

4. Pulse

The pulse we feel is on two main points, at the wrist and on the neck. The pulse we feel is due to the stopping and starting of the blood flow since in arteries blood flows like this. In adults, the pulse rate is 72 beats per minute, in kids this rate ranges between 90 to 120 beats per minute.

5. Blood Carrying Veins

The blood carrying veins are sometimes large and sometimes small. The aorta, the largest artery has a diameter equal to the garden hose. And the capillaries that carry blood are so small that ten of them are combined to make thickness of one human hair.

6. The Blood Travels

Our blood travels into body 3 times per minute. The total distance that blood covers in one day is 19000 km or 12000 miles.

7. Blood Amount

The total blood a human body contains is 5.6 liters. This amount is also called 6 quarts.

8. Pumping Blood

Heart pumps blood this we know but do we know that heart pumps around 1 million barrels of blood throughout we live? This is equal to filling three super tankers of oil.

9. The Heart Sound

Heart when beats, makes the sound like this: lub-dub. This could be listened with the apparatus not by feeling the heart beat.

10. Heart Size

Make fist of your hand, if you are a kid your heart is of same size, and if you are an adult, your heart has grown to the size of two fists.
