Coral Castle Facts

Coral Castle, one of the most astonishing and incredible structures of the world, is situated in small city of Florida. In fact, it is a love memorial that Edward Leedskalnin made after jilted from his girlfriend.  The building material of this splendid structure is coral limestone. Here are some interesting facts about Coral Castle.

1. Location

Coral Castle is located in the Miami-Dade County that is part of Homestead, a city in Florida State. The exact location of Coral Castle is the interface of West 157 Avenue and South Dixie Highway in the north of Homestead.

2. Reason behind Construction

The reason behind construction of Coral Castle is very interesting. It was the sole attempt of Edward Leedskalnin, who was a Latvian American. He made this splendid building as a result of jilting by his girlfriend just one day before the marriage.

3. Building Material

The most special thing about Coral Castle is its building material that is coral rocks and some of the stones have weight up to 30 tons.

4. Detail of Construction

It is found that 000 tons coral rocks were used in the construction of its walls and 100 coral rocks for making its inner furniture. The structure comprises of 8 feet high walls, an obelisk, water well, furniture, barbecue and fountain.

5. Present Importance

Today, Coral Castle that was named as “Rock Gate” in the past, is one of National Register of Historic Places since 1984 and a famous tourist’s place as well.
