10 Titanic Facts

Many ships wrecked leaving many fascinating stories behind. Some were said to have met mysterious accidents and some of them were destroyed due to some storm or whirl pools. Some of the ships even were lost leaving no traces behind. But titanic is not an unknown case, it’s been almost hundred years now, but the tragic story of titanic still circulates as a legend. Ignoring many false and romantic stories associated with titanic let us see some true and tragic facts about titanic.

1. Life Boats                                                                                                                                               

The big ship had only 20 life boats in order to meet any ugly situation. Those life boats were only enough to rescue half of the passengers while the total number of people on board were 1178.

2. The hasten moves

When ship collided with the iceberg the ship management was unable to take any right decisions it seems because some of those life boats were lowered to sea water only half filled.

3. Prior information of iceberg

The interesting thing about the titanic tragedy is that the ship crew was informed about the iceberg in the sea but that information was ignored and ship continued to float at full speed and met the most tragic fate.

4. Property lost in Titanic

Among the property that was reportedly lost in the accident were the three thousand bags of mail and an automobile.

5. Amounts paid by first class passengers

It is said that each passenger who boarded the ship as first class passenger paid a total of 4,350 dollars for parlor suit ticket and 150 dollars for the berth ticket.

6. Swimming pool

The ship was made with many advanced features. One of those advanced features was the heated swimming pool. This was the first time that any sailing ship had a swimming pool.

7. It was brand new

When the ship was ready to sail and passengers boarded it, it was brand new then. It is said that the paint on some places on the ship was still wet.

8. Recovered bodies

The ship, when sunk, claimed 1517 people’s lives. People drowned in the sea even though some of them were in the life boats too. Among those 1517 died people, only 306 people’s bodies were recovered.

9. Women and children lost their lives

Even though, the directions were given to save the lives of women and children first. But, survived men were more in number than women.  Most of the survivors were from first class while most that died were from the second and third class.

10. Cost and construction

It took three years to construct the ship completely and total of 7500,000 dollars were spent to make it. The captain smith, captain of the ship was going to retire after titanic was to cross Atlantic but he couldn’t survive to retire.
