There is a common misconception that avocado is vegetable. This is not correct because of four reasons. The first being they belong to genus of ever green trees, member of laurel family.

They grow in the tropical climate zones and their origination is from Central America. Avocado was originally cultivated in Mexico, later it was brought to the outer world now enjoyed by a major chunk of population.

There are several sorts of avocados available in the market; most popular among them is Hass avocado. Hass avocado makes 95% of the total avocados available. It grows fast and tastes divine. An avocado tree gives 200 pounds yield per year.

7. Cure against cancer

Along with other potential benefits, avocados are also found to be good in fighting cancer. They contain a high content of mono-unsaturated fats and oleic acid. This oleic acid is substantial protective nutrient against breast cancer.

8. Carotenoides

Another element found in avocadoes is carotenoid. This element is fat soluble pigment which gives color to the fruit. This element along with vitamin E resists the growth of prostate cancer cell. But it is found in avocado in less extent.

9. Preventing heart diseases

Several studies have revealed that even though avocados are fat-rich fruit yet eating them regularly prevents the major heart diseases to occur.  Because the fat they contain is unsaturated which is also called good fat. They maintain the cholesterol balance.

10. Weight loss

Avocadoes contain fiber and water. Both fiber and water together help losing the weight. Fiber keeps the digestion system work properly which results in better weight loss.
