1969 was the year, in which the idea of celebrating Earth day was presented by John McConnell first time. However, the global idea of celebrating earth day was presented by a Senator of United States, named Gaylord Nelson in 1970. He selected 22nd April as an Earth Day and promoted this idea by writing letters to educational institutes, magazines as well as government offices.
