Spider Monkey Facts

Spider monkeys are very old species in monkeys. They are also unique and different from other common monkey families. They mostly found in evergreen forests and in trees. Here are some facts about spider monkeys.

Size and Shape

They are more ancient then old world monkeys. They have narrow hands and a slender body. They are light to medium brown in color. They are 19-20 inches in length and weigh over 12-20 pounds.

How it get name

It is very interesting fact about spider monkey that how it got this name. They are found to hanging on the separate branches of tree with all four limbs and tail so that they are known as spider monkey.

Habitat

They usually live in green forests. They found in semi deciduous and mangrove forests. They mostly climb on trees and do not come on ground.

Diet

Their diet is consists of fruits and dry fruits mostly. 90 % of their diet is wild nuts, insects, and eggs. They are also fed fruits like banana, orange and apple.

Communication

They produce different types of loud sounds, which can be audible from 1000 m a ground. They usually generate these sorts of sounds to communicate with each other.  Because they move in the forms of groups.
