Lynx Facts

Lynx is a medium- sized wildcat. Four species of lynx, Eurasian Lynx, Canada Lynx, Iberian Lynx and Bobcat are slightly different from each other in appearance. Males are larger than females and hence they appear different.  Average weight of lynx is 11 to 45 pounds. Average age of lynx is 12 to 13years. Here are some facts about Lynx.

1. Habitat

Lynx are usually found in snow covered and cold areas. They are not social and love to live away from human residential areas. Usually they are found in far of north areas.

2. Diet

Snowshoe hare is the favorite diet of these cats. However, they hunt small and medium sized mammals and rodents. Deer is the biggest prey for them.

3. Reproduction

Female lynx raise one litter in a year. February and March is mating season for them and gestation period lasts from eight to ten months. They have two to three kittens in one litter. Sometimes five kittens are also seen, in a litter. Only female takes care of young ones and they live with their mother for a year.

4. Vocals

As compared to other members of cat family, lynx are very vocal and can produce verities of sounds at different times of the day. They have amazing verity of hissing, chattering and yowling sounds.

5. Characteristic cat

It is a medium sized cat but it has all the characteristics of cat family. It has acute sense of hearing and its eye sight is really sharp. Moreover, it has excellent climbing ability on rocks and trees.
