Lady Bird Facts

Lady birds are commonly found in the grass and are known for their shinny red and black body. There are more than 5,000 species of this creature. They have many other colors too. They are also called as Lady beetles or lady bird beetles. Here are some interesting facts about this little creature.

  1. Lucky bug: In different cultures they have different meanings. Majority of the people like them because of their appearance and size. In some cultures they are considered as lucky.
  2. Pest eaters: Ladybird is a small insect and farmers love them as they eat plant eating pests. One ladybird can eat nearly 5,000 insects in its whole life.
  3. Appearance: Different species of ladybird have different appearances, however majority of them have spots and stripes. There are some species which have no markings at all. A typical ladybird is red or orange in color with seven spots on its back, three on each side and one in the middle.
  4. Predators: The main hunters for ladybirds are birds but frogs, spiders and wasps also hunt them. They secrete an oily fluid to avoid its predators.
  5. Habitat: Grasslands, forests, suburbs and river banks are the favorite habitats of ladybird. They are also found in grassy areas in cities.
