King Cobra Facts

King Cobra that is undoubtedly, one of the most famous poisonous snakes is the longest one among all other toxic snakes all over the world. Well, they are snake-eaters and usually do not attack on human beings. However, they have ability to bring down even giant elephant just by one bite. Here are some facts about King Cobra.

1. Scientific Description

Ophiophagus Hannah is the scientific name of King Cobra and it is the only member of genus Ophiophagus. All other cobras belong to genus Naja. They belong to family Elapidae.

2. Difference than Other Cobras

Genus difference is the one clear distinguishing feature of King Cobra than other Cobras. However, they are different than others in terms of appearance and size as well. They could be much longer than other cobras with length limit up to 18 feet and weight up to 13 pounds as well.

3. Diet

All King Cobras are famous as snake-eaters. Their favorite diet is krait, rat snakes, cobras of Naja family and small pythons. However, in case of no availability of snakes, they can also eat birds, lizards, rats etc.

4. Habitat

King Cobras are largely found in dense forests of Southeast Asia especially India. The other major habitat of King Cobra includes Philippines and Indonesia.

5. Interesting Facts

King Cobras build their nests to lay eggs just like birds. They are famous as intelligent animals and have natural skill to hide themselves from predators.
