Iguana Facts

Iguana is type of lizard that is found in two popular species. This amazing animal cab be seen widely in forests of Caribbean and Central America. Today, green Iguana are largely adopted as pet due to their friendly behavior and non-hazardous nature. Here are some facts about Iguana.

1. Discovery

Iguana was discovered in 1768 by the reference of book written famous Austrian biologist Josephus Nicolaus Laurenti. Iguana have scientific name “Iguana Iguana” and belong to family Iguanidae. The Order of Iguana is Squamata and Genus Iguana.

2. Species

There are two species of Iguana; one is “Green Iguana” and the other is “Lesser Antillean Iguana”. Green Iguana does not have destructive nature like second specie and this is the reason that many people love to keep this beautiful animal as their pet animal.

3. Diet

Iguanas are normally herbivorous animals, but sometimes they could be omnivorous as well. There is a long list of vegetables, fruits and flowers that categorized into the diet of Iguana.

4. Eye-Sight

Iguanas are well known because of their excellent eye-sight and long distant vision. The amazing thing is that, they use eye signal to communicate with other species of their family.

5. General Information

Iguana have row of spikes at their back and parietal eye as well. They have small scales at their necks in various colors and these scales help them to hide from predators.
