Humpback Whale Facts

Whale is a very well known marine mammal found in every ocean of the world. They are very large aquatic animals. There are many species of whales and one of them is called humpback whale. Here are some facts about Humpback whales.

Shape and Size

They have a round and broad head. Color of body from head is black and from under side mottled black. Their flippers are pure white to pure black in color. Adult males are 40-48 feet in length and females have 45-50 feet length. They have weight over 25-49 tons.

Range

They found in all oceans of the world. They migrate continuously. The humpback whales migrate due to food finding, water temperature, mating and calving. Humpback whales of Arabian Sea do not migrate.

Diet

They eat different small fishes and small shrimp like crustaceans. Their daily diet is normally 1,361 kg per day. They have 270-400 plates in mouth which help in feeding.

Behavior

The humpback whales are very active and acrobatic in nature. They can throw themselves completely out from water. They raise their huge flukes out of the water and slap on the surface. They use these things for communication between them.

Status

There are very much killing of humpback whales by other big whales because they are slow swimmers. There are 30,000 -40.000 whales are in the world.
