Crayfish that is strange fish in terms of body shape that have much resemblance with lobsters as compared to fish. This is the fish that has claws to capture its prey or food. This is one of the popular fish specie that is used as both food as well as pet. Here are some facts about Crayfish.

1. Scientific Description

The super-families of Crayfish are Astacoidea and Parastacoidea, while there are further three families of Crayfish. It belongs to Class “Malacostraca” and Order “Decapoda”.

2. Families

The three families of Crayfish are Astacidae and Cambaridae that belong to Super-family Astacoidea. And found in Northern Hemisphere. However, the third family is Parastacidae that belong to Super-family Parastacoidea that found in Southern Hemisphere.

3. Eyes

The eye-sight of Crayfish is no doubt, very sharp, but they have some special feature of their eyes as well. They have ability to move their individual eyes in separate or different directions.

4. Diet

Crayfish are omnivorous animals and can eat both plants and small animals like small fish, snails, insets etc.

5. Habitat

Crayfish is the animal of only fresh water and found only in continuously running water streams. They cannot bear polluted or dirt water and die in such water.
