1. Scientific Description

The name Armadillo is taken from Spanish language that means “Little Armored One”. This is called Armadillo because it is covered with armored shell head, back, legs and even tail.

3. Habitat

Almost all the species of Armadillo are found in Latin America except nine-banded Armadillo that is also found in south-central states of United States particularly Texas. However, most of the species are in severe danger due to excessive predators and categorized into endangered animals.

4. Physical Description

The average length of most of the species of Armadillo is 30 inches, but it varies widely in different species and can range up to 59 inches in case of giant Armadillo. The color of Armadillo is also varying in different species like black, gray, red, yellow and brown.

5. General Information

Armadillo have very sharp claws and therefore excellent digger. The beloved food of Armadillo is ants and termites. They spend most of their time in sleeping that could be more than 16 hours within 24 hours.
