10 Frog Facts

Frogs are found in every corner of the world, where there is little water present. They are ugly looking creature not liked by many. Students of the medical start learning dissection on the frogs first because their digestive system and some other systems resemble humans. Some frog species are so tiny that they occupy place on one human nail but they are extremely poisonous as well.

1. Hibernation

A very well known characteristic of frogs is that they go on hibernation in winter season. They sleep in the mud or water and sleep the whole winter season. They consume too little oxygen during this period

2. Cannot live in salty water

One important thing to remember about frogs is that they do not survive in the salty water. So they will be seen around a sea or will not be found swimming in the sea.

3. Eyes and nose

The eyes and nose of the frog are placed on the top of its head. This is helpful for them to breathe and to look outside of the water when their body swims inside water. This helps them to catch food and prevent the danger of enemies.

4. Frogs do not drink

The slimy and shiny skin of frogs absorbs the water. This water that they absorb through their skin is enough for them to carry on with their daily functions. They do not drink water.

5. Eggs

The frogs are the insects that lay four thousand eggs at one time. This is a huge number of eggs that they lay; this means the huge number of frogs is born in every frog span.

6. Frog size

The size of the frogs varies with the place where they are found. The biggest common frogs are found on the Scottish highlands.

7. They jump

Frogs do not walk but they jump or in other words, they hop. There are certain species of frog that jump as long as twenty time of the size of their body.

8. Male frogs croak

In many species of frogs, the croaking sound is made by male frogs only. This they do to attract the female frogs and on other times they show the presence to other male frogs in their area.

9. The paradoxical frog

The paradoxical frogs in the America are one of the strange creatures. The tadpole of these forgs is 10 inches at the time of their birth. But they grow smaller and smaller in size with the add in their ages. They become as short as 3 inches.

The interesting and funny event of the history is that in nineteenth century, people of England tried to catch frogs during rain. They did so because they believed that since frogs are seen only in the rain so it means they come from sky.
