Eagle is the king of the birds. They have the excellent sight and perfect target. Eagles fly in wide plains and mostly in deserts from where they are see their prey easily. They fly at height that no other bird can fly in. eagles when locate their prey, they judge their prey’s speed and then they dive straight to the ground which other birds cannot achieve. Eagles hunt, rabbits, rodents fish and even snakes. They build their nests in trees of great height and rocks edges where it could be very difficult for enemies to reach. Their nests are big and strong. Below are given some facts about eagles.
1. Eggs
Eggs of the eagles are variable in sizes. A bald eagle’s egg will be smaller than the domestic eagle. A second egg is laid after 2 to three days. The chicks are very small and their weigh only in ounces.
2. Feeding Chicks
Chicks are fed with fish usually since fish is easily digestible. Sometimes they are fed ducks and water birds too. The chicks can eat as much as they can and store the food in their crop.
3. Hunting
When chicks are young, most hunting is done by the male eagles. Females do the feeding part. But males also take care the young when females are off the nest.
4. Male And Female Eagles
Male eagles are smaller than female eagles. Males weigh 10 pounds while females are 14 pounds in weight. Being smaller, male eagles are quicker than the females.
5. Wing Span
The spread of the wings in eagles is very beautiful and impressive. They have strong wings that let them fly at heights. The wing span of male eagle is 6 feet and female eagle is 6.5 to 7 feet.
6. Growth If Chicks
Chicks are fully grown in 9 weeks. They also put on weight as they prepare themselves for the flight. Their wing span at this point is as large or may be larger than the adults.
7. Eaglets
When eaglets learn how to fly, they mostly feed on dead animals because they are poor hunters. They mostly harass their parents and other adults to snatch the food, but when they become 17 to 23 weeks old, they are no more tolerated in the territory.
8. Migration
Eagles are not migrants. They keep their territories and do not like to leave their area. They will only move if they do not have enough food available in their area.
9. Death Rate
The death rate in young eagles in 50 percent because in the first year of their age they are vulnerable to the environment. Once they reach 4 years of age, they establish their own family.
